Challenges from the field

Despite major investments in screening technology and outreach programs, many national TB programs and implementing partners struggle with fragmented data and operational complexity. Screening campaigns generate large volumes of data, but ensuring data quality, tracking activities across multiple locations, and translating this information into actionable decisions remains extremely challenging.

 

Field teams often operate with limited visibility of where screening has already taken place, where the highest-risk populations are residing, or how resources should be used efficiently. As a result, programs risk missing high-burden communities, duplicating efforts, or underutilizing valuable diagnostic equipment.

The Strategic Collaboration

EPCON and Delft Imaging Systems have joined forces to integrate two worlds: AI-powered diagnostic screening and population-level surveillance. Through the CAD4TB+ platform, chest X-ray screening data collected in the field is directly connected with the EPCON

Epi-control intelligence layer, enabling countries to move from individual patient detection to national decision-making. 

 

This integrated approach allows health programs to:

  • Detect TB and other lung abnormalities instantly through AI-powered chest X-ray interpretation.

  • Monitor screening programs geographically in real time across regions and countries.

  • Map health vulnerabilities across populations.

  • Identify where future screening interventions will have the greatest impact. 

By linking screening technology with predictive analytics, the partnership enables Ministries of Health and implementing partners to optimize diagnostic equipment placement, prioritize high-risk communities, and strengthen TB control strategies.

Today, the combined solution supports national TB programs by transforming screening data into real-time surveillance insights and predictive risk maps. This helps decision-makers allocate resources more efficiently and increase the yield of case-finding interventions, an essential step toward ending TB.
